Description
The Bachelor's Degree is awarded by the Department of Secondary Education and provides scientific education in educational sciences, teaching methodology, educational psychology, educational policy, assessment, counselling, educational technology and educational research methodology. It prepares graduates for educational, research and administrative careers in education.
Relation to Employment
Graduates can find employment in secondary education, adult education, continuing vocational training, educational administration, research centers, educational institutions, and public and private sector organizations, as well as pursue master’s and doctoral studies.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
A high school diploma and successful completion of the Panhellenic or placement exams are required. The degree is awarded upon successful completion of eight semesters and 240 ECTS credits.
Knowledge
Graduates possess comprehensive knowledge of educational sciences, pedagogy, educational psychology, sociology of education, educational research methodology, teaching methodology of humanities subjects, educational policy, educational administration and evaluation, intercultural education, special education, lifelong learning, digital technologies in education and contemporary learning theories. They also acquire specialized knowledge in the humanities subjects taught in secondary education.
Skills
Graduates are able to design, implement and evaluate teaching interventions, apply modern pedagogical and instructional approaches, use educational research methods and digital technologies, organize and manage educational institutions, support learning in inclusive and multicultural environments, design counselling and career guidance interventions, and implement innovative educational practices in secondary education.
Competences
Graduates are competent to work as secondary education teachers with scientific, pedagogical and professional competence. They are able to respond to contemporary educational challenges, adapt to changes in educational policy and curricula, create inclusive and supportive learning environments, collaborate effectively with the school community, use educational research to improve teaching practice, and act according to democratic principles, social responsibility and professional ethics.
