Description
The Bachelor's Degree in Turkish Studies and Modern Asian Studies is awarded upon successful completion of the Undergraduate Study Program of the Department of Turkish Studies and Modern Asian Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The programme provides interdisciplinary education in the language, history, culture, society, economy, politics, international relations and geopolitics of Turkey, the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia and the wider contemporary Asian region. It also develops advanced proficiency in the Turkish language and equips graduates with scientific and analytical skills in regional and international studies.

Graduates acquire specialised knowledge and skills enabling them to pursue careers in public administration, diplomatic services, international organizations, the European Union, research institutes, international affairs organisations, companies operating in Turkey and Asia, cultural institutions, education, translation and interpreting, as well as organisations involved in geopolitics, regional development and international cooperation.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission is governed by the applicable legislation for entry into higher education. Graduates may continue their studies in postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Greece and abroad in Turkish studies, Asian studies, international relations, geopolitics, history, linguistics and related academic fields.
Knowledge
Upon successful completion of the Undergraduate Study Program, graduates possess comprehensive knowledge of the Turkish language, linguistics, literature, history, culture, society, economy, politics, law, international relations and geopolitics of Turkey and contemporary Asian countries. They understand the historical, political, social and cultural developments of Turkey, the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia, as well as the theories and methodologies of the social sciences and humanities applied to regional studies. They also acquire knowledge of comparative politics, international organisations, interstate relations and scientific research methodology.
Skills
Graduates are able to use the Turkish language effectively in spoken and written communication for academic and professional purposes, analyse historical, political and social developments, evaluate international affairs and regional developments, apply social and political analysis methods, collect, process and interpret scientific data, conduct research and prepare academic reports and analyses. They are also capable of using modern information technologies, supporting arguments with scientific evidence and communicating effectively in multidisciplinary and international environments.
Competences
Graduates are capable of working independently or as members of multidisciplinary teams, evaluating complex issues in international relations and regional politics, contributing to the planning and implementation of international cooperation initiatives, demonstrating critical thinking, intercultural awareness and professional ethics, and adapting to changing international political, social and economic conditions. They are able to pursue postgraduate and doctoral studies and engage in lifelong learning and continuous scientific and professional development.
