Description
The Bachelor's Degree in Psychology is awarded by the Department of Psychology of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The undergraduate programme provides comprehensive education in the core fields of psychology, including cognitive, developmental, social, clinical, counselling, educational and biological psychology, psychometrics, research methodology and statistical applications. The programme combines theoretical education, laboratory training, research experience and practical training, preparing graduates for professional and academic careers.
Relation to Employment
Graduates can work as psychologists, in accordance with current legislation and the requirements for professional licensure, in health, mental health, education, and social welfare institutions, as well as in organizations, businesses, research centers, public and private sector entities, as well as to pursue master’s and doctoral studies.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
A high school diploma and successful completion of the Panhellenic or placement exams are required. The degree is awarded upon successful completion of eight semesters and 240 ECTS credits.
Knowledge
Graduates possess comprehensive knowledge of the major fields of psychology, the principal psychological theories and epistemological approaches. They understand psychological research methods, data collection and analysis techniques, psychological assessment methods, the design and evaluation of psychological interventions, as well as ethical and professional principles governing psychological research and practice.
Skills
Graduates are able to identify and use reliable scientific sources, apply basic psychometric tools and techniques, prepare scientific psychology reports, apply psychological theories and methods in diverse professional settings in accordance with ethical standards, and collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
Competences
Graduates demonstrate active listening, empathy and respect for diversity. They recognize the influence of social and cultural environments on personality development, work without prejudice, respect interpersonal boundaries, uphold human rights and respond responsibly and ethically to the needs of vulnerable social groups.
