Description
The Bachelor's Degree in Geology and Geoenvironment is offered by the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The undergraduate programme provides comprehensive education in Geosciences through theoretical instruction, laboratory training, fieldwork and a compulsory thesis. Students acquire knowledge in geology, geoenvironment, mineralogy, petrology, palaeontology, geochemistry, geophysics, tectonics, hydrogeology, geomorphology, environmental geology and natural resource management, preparing graduates for professional and research careers in geosciences.

Graduates can find employment as geologists in public and private organizations, in geotechnical, mining and energy projects, in natural resource management, environmental protection, research, education, as well as in organizations active in geology, the geoenvironment, and natural hazard management.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
A high school diploma and successful completion of the Panhellenic or placement exams are required. The degree is awarded upon successful completion of eight semesters and 240 ECTS credits.

Graduates possess comprehensive and specialized knowledge across all major fields of Geosciences, acquiring a strong theoretical, laboratory and fieldwork background in geology, mineralogy, petrology, palaeontology, stratigraphy, geochemistry, geophysics, structural geology, hydrogeology, geomorphology, geography, climatology, environmental geology and natural resource management. They understand the geological processes shaping the Earth, the structure and evolution of the planet, the interactions among the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere, and contemporary scientific methods for investigating and managing the geoenvironment.
Skills
Graduates develop skills in geological field observation and mapping, collection and evaluation of geological data, application of laboratory, analytical and geophysical techniques, use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing and modern digital technologies, and interpretation of geological, geochemical and environmental data. They are able to design and conduct geological, geotechnical and geoenvironmental studies, assess natural resources and natural hazards, and apply scientific methodology to solve complex geoscientific problems.
Competences
Graduates are capable of applying their knowledge and skills to the study, protection and management of the geoenvironment, participating in projects involving natural resource development, natural hazard prevention and management, and environmental protection. They can work independently or within multidisciplinary teams, address complex academic and applied geoscientific problems with scientific rigor and professional responsibility, adapt to technological advances, pursue further academic and research development, and contribute to sustainable development through the responsible management of the geoenvironment.
