Description
The Bachelor's Degree in Biology is offered by the Department of Biology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The undergraduate programme provides comprehensive theoretical and laboratory education in modern Biology, covering areas such as cell and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology, zoology, botany, ecology, evolutionary biology and biotechnology. The programme combines theoretical instruction, laboratory training, practical placement and research experience, preparing graduates for professional and research careers in the biological sciences.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
A high school diploma and successful completion of the Panhellenic or placement exams are required. The degree is awarded upon successful completion of eight semesters and 240 ECTS credits.

Graduates possess comprehensive and specialized knowledge in all major fields of modern Biology, acquiring a strong theoretical and laboratory background in cell biology, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, botany, zoology, physiology, ecology, taxonomy and marine biology. They understand the structure and function of biological systems from the molecular and cellular level to organisms, populations and ecosystems, as well as contemporary scientific methods applied in biological research and life sciences.
Skills
Graduates develop skills in designing and conducting laboratory and field experiments, applying the scientific method, collecting, processing and interpreting biological data, using modern laboratory and research equipment, applying molecular, biochemical, genetic and ecological techniques, and presenting scientific findings. They also develop analytical thinking, research methodology, critical evaluation of scientific evidence and the ability to solve complex biological problems.
